    Section 106 Money

On the Preserve America Website, http://www.preserveamerica.gov/index.html, there are some articles on Secion 106 (of either the National Historic Preservation Act or the Code of Federal Regulations - I couldn't tell).  The gist of it is that every time any Federal Agency makes a decision which affects historic sites, especially those on the National Register, they are mandated to provide some kind of mitigation of the change or loss.  Around here that could mean building a dam on the Similkameen River or having a timber sale on the old Metaline-Colville road.  Asking for an examination of the situation is not a hostile act or blackmail, just a way to officially get some government action/money.  There are community guides on how to do this sort of thing on the Preservation Website, http://www.achp.gov/usersguide.html
